Perago Trust recipient Jack Greenough gives an update on his training and competition.
Just thought I would send a quick recap of my recent campaign let you know that I'm very grateful for Perago's support to help me get there!
Bogotá, Colombia World Cups
Going into the World Cups in Bogota, being a 1st year Junior (17y/o) I knew I was going to be at the bottom of the pile being one of the youngest in the U23 class. However, this was a refreshing feeling to go into a race without putting huge expectations on myself to get great results but instead going in with the goal of gaining more race experience.
After World Champs in July, I could see that one of the main gaps was the lack of race experience that I'd missed from not being able to race during Covid as a lot of the Europeans had.
I was definitely happy with my riding, especially creating/taking opportunities around the track to make passes. Couldn't quite sort out my gates which was annoying but it meant that I had to find/create gaps to make passes.
Three 1/4 finals and one 1/8th final doesn't sound like anything too special but I'm still happy with 3 top-20 finishes considering the depth of the field and the caliber of riders that were there in Bogota. Definitely, there are some gaps that to work on over the summer but it was so great to see many positive things in my riding, habits/routines and how I managed myself in such a different scene from what I'm used to.
Oldsmar, Florida
This race was so much fun, there was a whole lot of pressure off my shoulders as the World Cups were all finished. I raced in a class called Super X which is people mostly around my age, a few older and a few younger. I was really happy with my riding over in Oldsmar, in a pretty stacked class, I was able to take the win on Friday, 2nd place on Saturday and a crash on Sunday took me out in the semi-finals. We were all so tired by Sunday, there was so much racing over the 3 weeks the experience gained from all the racing started to show through especially towards the end of the trip.
Thank you again for your support which helped me go to these races. It was so beneficial to get some World Cup racing under my belt as I move forward into a big season next year!
Thanks,
Jack
