Perago Trust grant recipient Jack Carswell gives an update on his competition and training.
I am just getting in touch to give the Perago Trust an update on what I have been doing recently.
The New Zealand team campaign to Australia that I was to be involved with in August was unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid circumstances there, but luckily another opportunity became available almost at exactly the same time. This was to apply for selection to the World Road Championships in Belgium in September.
I was selected for this and so headed to the Netherlands to connect with a Dutch team Willebrord Wil Vooruit for 7 weeks of racing to lead into the Championships.
I have been based here for 4 weeks now and in that time have raced in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. I have a couple more races with my team before joining the National team in Belgium on the 16th September.
I will be doing the Individual Time Trial on the 21st September and the Road Race on the 24th September. Here is a link to the event website https://www.flanders2021.com/e...
I will return to New Zealand immediately after this for two weeks of MIQ and then back to school to finish off the year.
I would like to say thank you to the Trust for their support which has allowed me to pursue my dream of riding the World Championships.
Thank you and all the very best,
Jack Carswell
