Grant recipient Piper Russell gives an update on her training and competition
I would just like to give you an update of how I have been going in my lacrosse endorsers lately.
Over the last year and a half I have been training extremely hard almost every weekend here in the Waikato or in Auckland as part of the U20 New Zealand lacrosse team. We have been working hard to ensure we are super fit for the world championships in 2024.
I am extremely grateful for the support from all of you, it has allowed me to achieve my dream of playing at the U20 world championships. I am privileged to be a part of an amazing community and the Perago trust team and I thank you very much for your help.
On the 9th of August I flew out to Hong Kong to start my journey at the U20 world Lacrosse championships. This started with a couple of training days and two practice games against Japan universities which I played extremely well in.
On the 16th of august we had our first game against Australia which I fought hard in and made many good defensive stops. Over the entire tournament I made starting line up and excelled in the defensive end with many ground ball wins and interceptions.
The work I put in prior to this tounment was shown when in my final game of the tournament we played Hong Kong in which I received MVP of the game and we won 16-9. We ended up placing 15th overall which was a huge achievement.
Once again thank you for your support I couldn’t have done it without you!
