2023 Perago Trust grant recipient Kyle Aitken gives an update from the Tour of Southland.
I am immensely grateful for the kind donation towards my cycling & bicycle costs, arriving at a crucial moment when my bike seemed to encounter one issue after another. This support has been an incredible relief to help replace parts on my bike, enabling me to fully enjoy my cycling passion.
Returning from the Tour of Southland was an exhilarating experience. Being part of a young team that secured the overall win for the General Classification (GC) was beyond incredible. The lessons learned from our captain, especially in terms of teamwork and supporting fellow teammates, have been invaluable. The exposure to riding in a large field and learning the dynamics of team riding has provided a wealth of experience that I’m eager to build upon. As I venture into more races, I’m hopeful that this experience will build my confidence and elevate my racing skills.
Looking ahead, the upcoming six months are packed with Track and Road racing. I’m gearing up for the UCI Track event in Dec, followed by Track and Road Nationals & Oceania Track Championships 2024. The NZ Cycle Classic is on the horizon in early January, and I’m eagerly anticipating the opportunity to participate in yet another thrilling tour. I’ll keep you updated on my progress throughout the season.
Once again, thank you for your support. Your assistance has made an immeasurable difference in my cycling journey.
Kind regards
Kyle Aitken
